Adult Faith Formation L!VE

Each month, we will feature a video by a nationally known Catholic speaker for adult members of the parish to watch and discuss. The discussion will take place on a Wednesday evening between Faith Formation L!VE gatherings.

Please join us at 7:00 pm on Wednesday, October 28 for our October Adult Faith Formation L!VE gathering via Zoom. Together we will watch and discuss a video by Becky Eldredge, an Ignatian-trained Catholic writer, retreat leader, and spiritual director from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Becky offers a thought-provoking and inspiring presentation, reminding us that we are never alone.  This gathering is also an opportunity to check in with each other to see how we are doing. You are welcome to watch the video before we gather on October 28, or you can watch the video for the first time with the group.

You are also invited to go deeper with her as you explore a prayer form called the examen and/or consider making a spiritual plan, using the additional buttons.

Sunday Gospel Reflections

A great way to prepare for Sunday Mass is to read and reflect on, or discuss with your household, the Sunday readings. Even if a person doesn't get to the readings ahead of time, reflecting on them during the week following Mass can be a great way to live out the message we have heard proclaimed.

Below are short reflections on the readings for the next four Sundays. These are great tools for personal prayer and reflection, and also great tools to help lead a discussion about the readings among the members of your household.

Parish Connection

Contribute to the Writing of an Epistle!

What if St. Paul were to write a letter to us, the Christian community of Ss. John and Paul, in 2020? What would he say? Would he thank God for us? Why? How would he encourage us? What message about God’s love and mercy might he give? And how would he close the letter?

The parish connection for this month is to take a look at a couple of Paul’s letters and then to decide what message he would have for us today. Read 1 Thessolonians and/or Philemon to see examples of the structure and style of Paul's letter. Then, look at this link
to find out more about the structure of letters in Paul’s times, and how Paul organized his letters to the Christian communities.

Next, write a phrase or sentence (or more) that you think Paul would want to say to us, at Ss. John and Paul. You don't need to write a whole a letter, as the link mentioned above suggests.  Add the phrase, sentence, or paragraph that you came up with on this form. We will organize the contributions from all the households into a letter from St. Paul to our faith community. We  will then share it with the parish.
